Family Doctor – National Health Insurance System
Primary medical assistance is ensured only by the Family Doctor, a General Physician who is in a contractual relationship with the National Health Insurance Office (CNAS) and operates within the structure of an authorised and certified medical unit, according to legal provisions in force.
An insured patient pays monthly contributions to CNAS and cannot appear on the list of more than one Family Doctor. Otherwise, none of the rights provided through the CNAS health insurance by law will be available.
Thereby, all insured patients must constantly provide to their Family Doctor documents that constitute proof of payment or, where appropriate, exemption from health insurance contributions. Insured patients that comply with the above mentioned regulation can benefit of fully or partially compensated prescriptions issued by their Family Doctor.
In case the patient refuses a certain medicine from a compensated prescription, the pharmacy is not entitled to release other compensated medicine within the same amount. In the pharmacy, all the patients will have to sign for the received medicines and to mention their personal details (name, surname, address, the series and number of his identification card, personal identification number – CNP and date of issuance).
The period for which medicines may be prescribed is up to 3-5 days in acute diseases, 8-10 days in subacute diseases and up to 60 days for patients with chronic diseases. In the first month of treatment, for chronic diseases considered new cases, medicines can be prescribed for the first 10 days, after which the above regulation on patients with chronic diseases applies.
Medical prescription issued by Doctors at the discharge of the patient from the hospital includes medication for up to 30 days.
Prescription for chronic diseases is valid for 30 days from the date of issue, while in acute and subacute cases prescription is valid only 24 hours from the date of issue.
The medicines that can be fully or partially compensated are stated on a list approved by Government decision.
